The story behind the set-up
I qualified as an accountant at the age of 21 whilst working for a local accountancy practice. Studying in the evening and living accountancy 24/7 paid off as I achieved my ACCA qualification at a young age.
Post qualification I climbed the internal ranks across a number of industries. I was fortunate to spend time with some amazing people in both the UK and New Zealand who helped me to grow into strategic roles over time and develop my own ‘niche’.
The highlight of my career overseas was working very closely with the Senior Management team of a dynamic company called Generator which opened my eyes to the benefits of the ‘work hard, play hard’ environment. Generator was approached by a PLC soon after I joined and a reverse take-over took place. This was an amazingly busy time for both myself and the Managing Director, Andrew Stone but we worked tirelessly and lived in each other’s pockets for a number of weeks to make the deal work.
Post-sale, the hard work began and I was instrumental in turning around the then loss-making New Zealand arm of the PLC to an audited substantial profit by the end of year two.
Upon my return to the UK, I re-joined a former colleague in the Gaming Industry. I joined the company in its infancy and remained with it over a three-year period whilst we undertook eight acquisitions. This saw the company grow to revenue of over £50m. This experience was again vital to my career growth.
In 2013, I elected to set up EFC with a view to providing flexible, high quality strategic financial consultancy to small and medium sized companies who did not require this level of expertise on a full-time basis. I have worked with businesses in a wide variety of industries during this time.
